Singapore-Grown Blending Tech Meets Chicago-Rooted SAF Innovation

Aether Fuels and FlyORO Technologies have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding to jointly explore SAF supply-chain and blending solutions for Project Beacon, Aether's next-generation SAF facility under development at Aster's Pulau Bukom refinery in Singapore. The collaboration pairs Aether's waste-carbon conversion technology with FlyORO's modular blending platform, both of which trace their origins to Singapore.

A Second Pathway Gets a Supply Chain

Project Beacon converts industrial waste gas and biomethane into CORSIA-certified SAF using Aether's Aurora technology, targeting up to 2,000 tonnes of fuel a year with construction due to start this year and commercial operations targeted for 2028. Where the KBR-Keppel-Aster ethanol-to-jet project announced this week addresses Asia's feedstock bottleneck through ethanol, Project Beacon addresses it through waste carbon, industrial gas and biomethane that would otherwise go unused. Singapore is now positioning itself with two distinct next-generation SAF pathways under development on its own soil, rather than betting on one technology.

Why Blending Matters as Much as Production

FlyORO's AlphaLite platform is a modular, 40-foot blending unit, first launched in Singapore and since deployed at Wellcamp Airport in Australia, designed to integrate SAF into existing fuel infrastructure without new fixed terminals. Under the MOU, FlyORO will assess how AlphaLite can support downstream deployment and last-mile supply-chain integration for Project Beacon's output. Production capacity is only half of the SAF equation; getting fuel from plant to wingtip without costly new infrastructure is the other half, and one Southeast Asia has been slower to solve.

Singapore's Multi-Pathway Position

The two companies' ties to Singapore differ in depth.

• FlyORO is Singapore-grown outright, with its blending technology first launched domestically before export to Australia.

• Aether was incubated here through Xora Innovation, Temasek's deep-tech venture platform, but its core technology and R&D centre sit in Chicago, and it has since grown into a dual US-Singapore company.
